24th. Annual Flying M Ranch Fly-In and Campout, and
16th Annual Cub Migration Oct. 24-26, 2008
(4th weekend in Oct., Rain or Shine!)
Aircraft Owners, Pilots and other Aviation enthusiasts welcome. NOT OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!
Hurrican IKE Damage and Vollunteers Needed!
Please check the UPDATE page for more info!
Welcome to the Flying M Ranch in the Piney Woods of East Texas! There are several ranches by this name (as your web browser will show), but none quite like this. We don’t raise cattle anymore, we just have a good time once a year with our annual weekend Fly-In and Campout. If you are a pilot, fly in to our unique 4000 ft. grass runway, park the plane, pitch your tent, kick back, kick tires, whatever, and just enjoy the show rain or shine. We have food, we have minimal but adequate camping facilities, we have a very relaxing atmosphere. Meet up with old friends, and make some new ones. If you have a J3, all the better. There are always a mess of them that show up. Hang up your goggles? Bring the RV, motorhome, or stay in one of the local hotels! 2007 had nearly 600 aircraft and 2000 guests. It was perfect weather and the best flyin in the state of Texas, ever!
SIGN UP!!! Volunteers needed prior to fly-in:
The following tasks need additional volunteer work prior to the fly-in, and prior to the work-weekend. Please call (936-369-4362) to arrange a time to come over and help out. Due to setbacks from Hurricane Ike and Marcia's bad leg, We are in desperate need of help this year:
Build Registration Canopy: supplies are in, need carpentry skills.
Install Bridge Railing: supplies not purchased yet. Carpentry skills needed for those unafraid to get wet.
Build kitchen work table & shelves. Inside carpentry job. Can you lay Formica?
Paint empty bottles blue and orange.
Paint runway end tires.
Create more runway camp sites, clear brush.
Locate and fill holes, runway side and camp areas
Clean out porta-johns: bring pressure washer, ours is out.
Repair picnic tables
Cleanup and organize kitchen: (Marcia is recovering from broken leg.)
Wood chipper operator. Bring rakes and wheelbarrow.
PILOTS AND ATTENDEES:
Due to the increasing number of people attending, certain challenges have been brought on to control pedestrians crossing the runway in front of aircraft taking off and landing. We are introducing some new field procedures that will hopefully enhance safety, and not distract from the
fun of the event.
Pedestrians:
Instructions from the unicom advisor must be heeded!
For operations to the North all aircraft will start their
take-off at a displaced position which will be marked with runway signs. It will be located North of the gazebo at the pond. Approximately 3400 ft. will be remaining. If a longer runway is needed, contact the unicom advisor and they will help clear the area required. This is due to the slight rise
mid-runway which has prevented pilots and pedestrians from seeing each other, if the aircraft is taking off from near our driveway. The displaced threshold should permit better runway visibility. Pedestrians crossing the runway to go to the hangar, will do so ONLY in front of the unicom stand
directly to the hangar. Please obtain permission first from the unicom advisor. Please inform any of your non-aviation guests about aircraft and runway safety, and accompany any of them who are slow walkers. Children under 12 must be accompanied at all times. These small changes should pose no inconveniences.
This has always been a safe and incident-free event with an emphasis on FUN. If we all work to keep it that way, we can continue the event for several more years to come.
2007 Flyin Stats: Nearly 600 aircraft in attendance: Max'd out!
Guest Registration is Mandatory!

south.
Yes, those are all aircraft parked on the east & west side and down the runway.
NOTICE!!! Hurricane Ike:
High winds sustained damage to many trees fallen, predominantly in the picnic/camping areas, during the storm. We will be unable to get a logger in to remove these prior to the fly-in. Some effort will be made to top these trees, but substantial volunteers with extra chainsaws are needed. The trails are also blocked. Please call to arrange when to come over or the camping areas will be limited. If you have a loader-tractor and can trailer it in to help it would be welcome. Sometimes just one is not enough.
We do need volunteers on any day of the week (call ahead) for the heavy work re-dressing the camping areas & trails after the trim-loggers roughed it up, and also the runway after the wild hogs tore up the north end.
Please call Dave to arrange a good day or two to come help, and don't forget the work weekend on Oct 18, 19."
Smooooth Running: Like last year, Barry Boyette will be on hand to perform prop balances on site if you need one. Look for him! $250 fly-in special will get a fixed pitch or constant speed prop done on site.
